"Mercury Power!"
-- Amy

Amy Waters is a genius high-schooler who is revealed to be Sailor Mercury. Together with Sailor Moon & the Sailor Scouts, she battles the evil Queen Beryl. For a time, she also became the villain Dark Mercury.

She had no friends before meeting Serena & always ate lunch alone on the roof so she can study. When she became Sailor Mercury, Serena wanted her to be her friend but Amy wasn't sure. The student body felt Amy was stuck up & standoffish for her non-socializing. Serena seemed to be the only one to see that Amy is merely shy, not truly standoffish. Amy initially believed she was being her friend just because she was a Scout. In Serena, befriending her gradually helps Amy to learn that she is more than just a bookworm. She is extremely loyal to her friends & worries greatly about losing them.

Amy initially had reservations about using Luna's Karaoke Crown Passport to gain free entry, & although Andrew briefly wondered about the existence of these passes, he did not question the Scouts on this matter. Amy was so unused to having friends, that she consulted her old dependable friend: a book. This goes awkwardly wrong. For a short while, Amy & Serena's best friend Molly share a conflicted relationship as both seem to be jealous of the other's closeness with Serena. One time when Serena was under a spell that would turn her into a Youma, Amy stood up to Molly to stay out of the way. However, they later resolve their differences & become good friends themselves. In fact, in the final act, when Serena restored the world but was not present, Amy & Molly were close friends, probably because she knew her true identity.

When the team begins to drift apart, Amy became anxious. Unfortunately, she was caught alone by Malachite & brought to the Negaverse where she was changed into Dark Mercury by the power of the Negaforce. The Scouts were unable to bring her back until she injured Serena & couldn't bear seeing her friend hurt. After being healed, she had no memories of what happened while she was Dark Mercury. This haunts her, as it terrifies her of what she may have done to her friends while not in control. When Nephlite became a normal human, he started working at Crown Karaoke after his forced suicide. He felt the need to return the favor to her from when she was Dark Mercury, a favor which Amy does not recall at the least. Despite this, Amy went out of her way to be kind to him, identifying with feelings of isolation.

Amy has a lonely home life. While her mother, Shirley, is a loving woman & worries about her daughter, she is a very busy doctor & often has overnight shifts. In one episode, her mother got a phone call from the police saying that Amy was out late at night, she decided that Amy's new friends may have been a danger to Amy's education & wanted Amy to transfer to a new school. Amy had her first fight with her mother over it, & even ran away from home, spending the night at the Secret Base with Raye. Luckily, Amy convinced her mother that what she's doing in her life right now is more important than studying, she agreed not to transfer schools, because her mother was just looking for her daughter's best interest. Amy's loyalty to Serena is what allowed her to keep her faith in Serena's ability to suppress Princess Serena. And when Princess Serena finally overcame Serena's resistance, it is Amy that chose to fight her, because Serena would have wanted to keep the planet safe. In the special episode, four years had passed & Amy is now studying medicine as the youngest doctor in America. It is explained that she went to college when everyone else was in high school. She is even seen in a bio-hazard suit & a higher-ranking doctor wants to keep her helping him a secret. She literally hurries to take care of the threat of Queen Mabelle & later attends Serena & Darien's wedding.

Amy is exceptionally intelligent, introverted, & non-socially apt. She studies hard to become a doctor like her mother. Amy is especially shy & usually wears glasses while in public, even though she does not need them.

Dark MercuryEdit

Dark Mercury was Amy's identity as part of the Negaverse.

The Sailor Scouts began drifting apart after Sailor Venus revealed herself as the 'Princess,' & the Scouts began to keep secrets from one another. Malachite took advantage of the discord & caught Amy alone. When the team begins to drift apart, Amy became anxious. On her walk home, Malachite confronted Amy in a moment of vulnerability & was enveloped by purple-black energy & left her unconscious. Lita goes to Amy's house when she doesn't go to school & finds her sick in bed. After she feeds her, Amy convinces Lita to go to the carousel, where she passed out. In a later episode, Lita & Andrew took Amy to the hospital, where she disappears in black petals. Sailor Jupiter fights Malachite, who has Amy & when Mars & Moon arrive, Amy's Transformation Bracelet was changed, & she transform using the phrase 'Dark Power.' Sailor Mercury was infused with the power of the Negaforce by Malachite & turned evil.

She wields a sword fashioned from an icicle, which she creates herself the first time her transformation is displayed. This causes drastic personality changes as well as the alterations to her uniform. She is self-confident to the point of egotism. Evil Amy, dressing predominantly in black, tends to move about slowly & sadistically, & when confronting the Scouts gives a sense of sadistic glee. Amy even brainwashed all the students at her school, including Molly to antagonize Serena. Despite these alterations, certain aspects of the real Amy still remain. She still wants to do well in school, & wants friends, hence the brainwashing of her classmates.

Dark Mercury had no intention of being a follower to anyone, & was always trying to pursue her own agenda, which is to kill her former friends & become as strong as possible. She shows blatant disrespect towards Malachite & even to Queen Beryl, perhaps because, unlike even the Four Heavenly Kings, she had been directly exposed to the Negaforce's power during her conversion, as opposed to having Queen Beryl or someone else filtering it. While in the Negaverse, Dark Mercury demonstrated kindness towards a very distressed Nephlite. She seemed to have a bit of a soft spot for him, despite her occasional jab at him. She even repaired his cape when it got damaged in a fight between he & Malachite. She stated that she doesn't like to see him alone.

Dark Mercury spent much of her time attempting to destroy Sailor Moon. Mars, Moon, & Jupiter were reluctant to attack their friend, as dark as her powers had grown. Sailor Venus believe it was their duty to fight Dark Mercury, but they were still reluctant. Sailor Moon frequently attempted to heal her friend with the Silver Crystal. This allowed "normal" Amy to emerge temporarily. Unfortunately, Mercury is always snatched away before it could be completed, but it has some effect, ultimately resulting in her recovery. Dark Mercury defeated Sailor Moon in a later battle, but the trauma of seeing her injured friend due a near fatal blow caused her to realize she cares about Serena, & to remember who she really is. Enraged at losing his pet, Malachite tried to kill her but was stopped by Nephlite, as a favor for repairing his cape. After being healed, she didn't recall anything she did as Dark Mercury. This haunts her, as she becomes terrified of what she may have done to her friends, even though it wasn't under her control.
